Experience with Culturally Diverse Audiences | Ozzie Alfonso brings a varied and extensive experience in the design and production of television projects for culturally diverse audiences in the U.S. and abroad. For many years, while producing programs of national scope, he has emphasized multicultural perspectives and this approach has been brought to Terra. | | Mr. Alfonsos television experience includes years as part of the Children's Television Workshop's Sesame Street team. There he directed both a bilingual and a Spanish only cast for a series of five episodes, which were developed into the nighttime special, "Sesame Street in Puerto Rico". He was nominated for an Emmy Award for outstanding individual achievement in directing for the show. While at the Children's Television Workshop, Mr. Alfonso was also the senior producer, writer and director of "3-2-1 Contact", the award winning science series seen regularly in over 60 countries. Also for PBS, he was brought to develop, write, and consult on a sitcom series, "Amigos", produced by the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. The series was designed to teach Spanish as a second language to elementary school students and was funded by the U.S. Department of Education and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. | | Terra Multimedia was contracted to produce "The Hispanic Heritage Awards", an annual primetime special for NBC. Terra has also produced several multi-part bi-lingual series for classroom distribution. "Science Turns Minds On", is a classroom package of science video and laser discs produced for Macmillan/McGraw-Hill. All the original English material was produced and translated by Terra, who then added a full Spanish track. "S.N.O.O.P.S", is a dramatic interactive "mystery" series produced for the Hughes Galaxy Classroom. Broadcast via satellite to classrooms in the U.S. and Mexico, Terra produced the original programs and then translated and provided a Spanish version for use in bi-lingual classrooms. | Terra has completed a series of four dramatic video programs about tuberculosis produced in multiple languages (English, Spanish, Cantonese and Creole) for specific audiences (general public, health care professionals and individuals at risk). The series was for national distribution as part of a major public health education campaign by the New York City Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Terra developed a series of television projects for culturally diverse audiences in the US and projects for international production and distribution in Latin America and the Middle East. A series of Spanish language PSAs are currently running nationally over Univisión. |
