| For the new Biology texts we produced the accompanying videos, laser discs, and associated CD-ROM. "BioVue" consists of four two-sided videodiscs. We produced 36 original action videos and specially designed 3D and 2D animations. Each "BioVue" discs also contains an image bank with every chapter and image accessible via bar code, chapter numbers, or frame numbers. For "BioVue" we researched and produced stories ranging from researching a coral reef to bringing back the prairie and exploring the forest canopy. Every story contains 100% original material written, shot, and edited in-house at Terra. "BioVue" is a prime example of our hands-on approach to development and production. | | Following close on the heels of "BioVue," Prentice Hall approached us to develop from scratch the accompanying CD-ROM, "BioVue Plus." We designed a highly interactive CD-ROM consisting of video segments, computer generated animations especially designed for interactive learning, a set of activities and tests to reinforce concepts and allow for assessment, and report modules that allow the student and teacher to design their own multimedia presentations. | | | "BioVue" was a return engagement for us with Prentice Hall. Prior to the Biology project we had completed "CHEMedia" -- a comprehensive and ambitious technology component to Prentice Hall's new Chemistry text. We literally brought the world of chemistry into the classroom by finding real-life stories that illustrate chemical topics. For the chapter on Oxidation we went with the Grucci family as they design their famous fireworks. Seeing why powered metals react much faster than flaked metals as it relates to constructing fireworks really brings the concept home. | | | | We took a slightly different approach with CHEMedia by shooting chemistry experiments that would be too difficult or dangerous to perform in class. We cast a professional team of appealing young "chemistry enthusiasts" not too unlike the audience in age, makeup and behavior. These young on-camera "chemists" carried us through all experiments with a touch of informality and humor. We designed it this way after watching hours of existing on-camera experiments which we felt we dull and lacking the necessary production quality. | |
As with all our complex projects, "CHEMedia" was brought in on time and on budget. Proof? Prentice Hall keeps coming back for more. For more details on Prentice Hall's school products visit their web site. |
